To make SkyFi III work with these scopes, you need to replace the 494 Autostar controller (which does not have a serial port) with the 497 Autostar (which does). The included serial cords also allow downloading updated software to the AutoStar from your PC, and additionally cloning one AutoStar to another. Some Meade ETX models (60/80) ship with the Autostar 494 controller. Controls any Meade telescope with a 497 AutoStar or AudioStar, allowing telescope control from the PC. Note: Although I am new to Astromart, I have sold many items on Cloudy Nights. I will deliver or meet for a nominal additional charge (roughly gas, food and coffee costs). I am also willing to deliver or meet you within a handful of hours. If you will pick up the scope, I will also include a Meade #911B Broadband SCT filter and Meade #908N Series 4000 1.25 Nebular-Narrowband filters ($100 value). I would VERY much prefer to have someone pick this up. If you would prefer to have the original style controller, I can reverse the upgrade and offer it to you in this fashion (and for a little less in price).

Allows connection of a Meade 497 AutoStar or Meade AudioStar keypad to a PC serial port using Meade AutoStar Suite software, available for free download at When used with appropriate software it allows for telescope control from the PC, downloading software updates, and cloning one keypad to another so you can share user created. So you have all the same tools and flexibility you would have on a LX90. This provides you all the benefits of the Autostar (clear menus, easier alignment process, improved and increased object selection, firmware updates and computer control options. This scope has been upgraded to work with an AutoStar controller rather than the old style hand box. Included with the telescope and tripod are the original 8X50 finder scope, lens & eye opening caps, AC power supply, original OTA box with foam, 497 Autostar and Meade 2 SCT diagonal with 1.25 adapter.Īnd now for the AutoStar. This is a large portion of the repairs, upgrades and maintenance many pay $500 for.
* Leg extension knobs were upgraded with new knobs. * Tripods hinge bolts were all upgraded with stainless steel bolts. The tripod does show some signs of age (the finish and paint has been marred in a couple areas). * The Giant Tripod has had the rust removed and surfaces polished. * Original OTA screws were all upgraded with a full set of stainless steel screws. * Primary Mirror and Corrector plate have been cleaned. * DEC and RA encoders trained and calibrated. * RA and DEC Gears and worm drives have been degreased, cleaned, and re-greased. * DEC and RA Potentiometer have been re-calibrated to original specification for accurate motor movement. The following is what has been done to make this instrument rival a new LX-200 at half of it's cost. I used the cold and cloudy nights this winter to fine-tune this into a terrific scope. This is thanks to the latest upgrade an enthusiastic user developed. I have a Meade LX200 Classic that operates via a #497 AutoStar.
